My First Thoughts on a Dolls House

Y first thoughts on a "Doll's House" is it is a very interesting play. Nora the main character is the wife of Torvald Helmer....a bank manager. She makes herself seem like she is not all that smart, but in reality she has a very sharp mind. She is constantly thinking about her family and how she can avoid trouble. She runs in a little bit of trouble with Krogstad a lawyer who is trying to create trouble for he because her husband had let him go. He brings up her forgering her signature on the note which stated she would pay back the money Krogstad
had loaned her in order to finance the trip abroad to Italy to save her sick husbands life. Now Krogstad wants her to get his job back at the bank, but the problem is another character Mrs. Linde is looking to take that position. Now in order to get that position Krogstad is blackmailing Nora. Nora is my favorite character so far in the play. She is funny and kind of ditzy at time, but she seems like a strong woman who would do anything to keep her family together.

The Collector

For the outside reading I am reading The Collector by John Fowles. The book is about a man who is a butterfly collector who ends up "collecting: a woman. He watchers her from afar, and then one day he kidnaps her and takes her to his house. To him she is like a rare specimin of a butterfly  that he feels a need to study. He feels lonely and just wants someone to love him. He adheeds to her every whim because he wants to keep her and make her happy. When she starts not meeting his expectations and not behaving how he would like he turns kind of dark and becomes more strict and guarded. I like this book, because I love anything that has to do with reading about criminals. It is just very fascinating and interesting to me.

East of Eden- The character I most relate to

The character that I have grown to like the msot in East of Eden is Adam. Adam is an honest and kindhearted guy who has been throught alot and deals with alot. Somehow though, he always manages to stay calm no matter what the situation is. He doesn't like to create trouble, he likes to stay behind the scenes. Cyrus likes Adam more than Charles I think because he sees such purity and innocence in him. Adam is the kind of person you aspire to be, to be forgiving and just peaceful. He seems to be the most sane one out of all the characters in the novel.

East of Eden

My first thoughts of East of Eden was that it seemed like an interesting enough book. The book showed the different ways Steinbeck thought about the people and the land. Most people are taught a romanticized version on how how everythign came to be. But in East of Eden Steinbeck seems to tell it like it is. He doesnt try to sugarcoat anything and brings in a new perspective on things. It is seemingly refreshing to read comapred to other books that I have read.

Lonely Hearts

Lonely Hearts is about everyone who is looking for love. People just want someone to love, and they always want to be loved. They want to  be able to share memories. They want someone to care for, some on eto understand them, someone to be their companion. We are all essentially looking for love even when we are not intenionally doing it. Humans want to feel like they belong, and feel like someone understands them. People who are in relationships tend to live longer than those who are single. Love makes us truly happy.
